Tintern Abbey from Chepstow
Saturday 5th April 2026 - 6 miles / 3 hours

This walk through stunning countryside on the border between England and Wales takes us to ancient places of worship, some still vibrant and in use, others fallen into ruin and speaking of past glories.
The walk starts in Chepstow at the historic priory church of St Mary. After some time to linger in the church the route heads out of the town, passing Telford's attractive bridge over the River Wye and the stronghold of the Norman-era castle. The route then follows the Wye Valley Greenway walk on a disused railway line, passing through the 1km-long Tidenham tunnel and through woodland in the beautiful Wye valley through to Tintern Abbey, where there is time to linger and then reflect together on the history and spirituality of the region.
Cost: £40, to include admission to Tintern Abbey. We will start at St Mary's Church in Chepstow at 10.00am and finish at Tintern Abbey at .00pm. We will take lunch at one of the cafes or pubs in Tintern village. We return to Chepstow by public transport.
