Lent Pilgrimages - West Country Abbeys
Spring 2026

For the season of Lent, we are running seven walks which journey to some of the finest monastic Abbeys of the West Country. Many are still in use as places of worship, while others are dramatic ruins which hint at their illustrious past as centres of pilgrimage.
Along the way we will reflect upon how the monastic way of life still speaks to us today and how it continues to be relevant as a resource to counter some of the ills of the busy, materialistic modern Western way of life.
Lent is traditionally a season for spiritual renewal, for undertaking disciplines to aid well-being in life, and so these walks are a perfect way to boost your spiritual, physical and mental health.
Each walk is a stand-alone journey and they have been planned in such a way that you can join one or more of them. There are shorter walks of under 10 miles and longer ones for those who relish a challenge. Some are deliberately wheelchair-friendly.
Each walk includes a stop for a pub lunch or a cafe visit along the way.
Each walk costs £30*. There are savings for walking more than one of these journeys. Additional friends can join the walk for a reduced rate as well:
One walk: £30* / additional group members £20*
Two walks: £50* / additional group members £35*
Three or more walks for £20 each* / additional group members £15 each*
* Some walks include an additional cost to cover entry to historic sites. Cost does not include price of lunch or return by public transport.
