St Aldhelm's Way to Frome
Saturday 12th September - 14 miles / 7 hours

This is a longer walk in the Mendip hills, along the first part of St Aldhelm's Way, a 74-mile trail following places associated with the seventh century missionary monk, St Aldhelm.. It also follows part of the East Mendip Way long distance trail and features small villages, medieval churches, ancient woodland, impressive views over the Somerset levels, and two significant holy wells and adjacent churches, both associated with St Aldhelm.
We start at St Aldhelm's well in the village of Doulting, near Shepton Mallet, then climb into the Mendip hills and pass the folly of Cranmore Tower. There are stops at small historic churches in Downhead and Chantry, before we reach the magnificent 15th Century church of St Andrew in Mells. From here it's a pleasant walk along the valley of the Mells river to Great Elm and into Frome, to finish at St John's Church with its holy well.
Return to Doulting is by taxi. Please bring a packed lunch for this pilgrimage walk.
The cost for this walk is £45 or £30 for additional members of a group booking. Book here for this pilgrimage.
