Bristol Methodist Heritage walk 

Saturday 7th November 2026 - 8 miles / 6 Hours  

Bristol was one of the main centres of the new Methodist movement, spearheaded by John and Charles Wesley in the eighteenth century.  Come and join a pilgrimage walk which focuses on the surviving Methodist heritage of the city.  The walk starts at Hanham Mount to the east of the city, where John Wesley began his open air preaching ministry.  Then the route follows the River Avon trail into the city centre, pausing en route to visit the ancient holy well at St Anne's. 

There's plenty of interest along the way, with interesting relics of Bristol's industrial and commercial past as well as several city churches along the route, most especially the magnificent St Mary Redcliffe.  The walk continues to visit Charles Wesley's house for a guided tour (numbers permitting) and then finishes at John Wesley's New Room in the Broadmead area, where there is a museum and historic eighteenth century preaching house, the oldest Methodist place of worship in the country.
